Highlands Bilum Bag Undyed Fibre, Papua New Guinea (c. 1960s

An understated bilum bag from the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, formed entirely from undyed natural fibre and valued for its simplicity and texture. 

Its elongated strap is designed for forehead carrying, allowing the bag to rest along the back—an enduring and practical form used throughout the region.

This example was collected during a medical expedition in Papua New Guinea, circa 1969 (as per auction record).
